Prairie Ragwort Senecio pauperculus This wildflower with it's little daisy-like yellow blossoms stands out in late spring to midsummer and is sometimes referred to as Prairie Groundsel. A drought resistant prairie plant that does well in dry, sandy or gravelly soils. This native perennial enjoys full sun to light shade and grows to a hight of 6" to 24". |

Prickly Pear Opuntia humifusa This prairie plant is extremely drought resistant and also helps other plants from being overgrazed with its sharp spines. The Prickly Pear has yellow blooms up to 4" wide. Its pads can be 3"-6" long and 2"-3" wide. It is usually found growing in sandy soil in full sun and reaches a height of 4"-8". Reproduction of this plant occurs when the pads break away from the parent plant and form new plants. A purple fruit is formed in late summer which contains the seeds. Companion plants can be Little Bluestem (Andropogon scoparius) and Rough Blazingstar (Liatris aspera). |

Rosin Weed Silphium integrifolium The shortest of the Silphiums, the Rosin Weed grows to a height of only 2'-6' has large flowers that resemble large yellow daisies. Its seeds are a food source for birds. Blooms July thru September and grows well in most soils dry to moderately moist in full sun. |

Sneezeweed Helenium autumnale This beautiful plant is found in moist to wet areas. It's disk-like bright yellow flower heads are 1- 1¾" wide, with a rounded half ball shaped center that measures approximately ¾" around. The flower heads are on individual stalks. This native perennial grows 2'-5' in height and blooms midsummer to late fall. It does well in full sun to partial shade. |
