Coneflower, Narrow-leaf
Echinacea augustifolia
This native, light colored pale coneflower is from the western United States and is highly recoginzed for its medical properties. It grows best in medium to dry, well-drained soils in full sun and blooms June thru July. A drought resistant perennial that grows to a height of 1'-2' and attracts butterflies.

This rare wildflower is found in the driest sandy soil. The Fame Flower is a succulent native plant that blooms for a short time in the late afternnon each day. It blooms for a short time to conserve it's moisture in order to survive the dry conditions. It produces little star-shaped pink flowers that sit atop the octopus-like branches. Growing 6"- 8" in height, this short lived perennial, does best in full sun and sandy soils. Self-sows readily in open sand.

Epilobium anguestifolium
The bright pink blossoms of this native perennial can been seen in areas that have been destroyed by fire or recently disturbed areas. It grows to heights of 2'- 7' and has slender, pointed leaves that are 2-6 inches long. This plant can be aggressive and colonizes with ease. Fireweed enjoys dry to moist conditions in sun and bears seeds with white fluffy tufts.

Joe Pye Weed
Eupatorium maculatum
The pinkish purple cluster of fuzzy flowers on this native perennial are often seen on roadsides. Each sturdy stem is purple-spotted, unbranched and holds whorled leaves that are coarsely toothed. Leaves are arranged in circles of 4-6 leaves at various points on the stem. It grows to 6' tall, does best in full sun and in moist to wet soils but will tolerate average garden soil conditions.

Eupatorium purpureum
One of the best native plants for attracting butterlies. This plant blooms purplish-pink and is a monarch favorite. It prefers rich well-drained soils, in partial shade to full sun and grows 48"-72" tall.



Milkweed, Sand
Asclepias amplexicaulis
This milkweed is unbranched and produces a greenish-pink cluster of flowers approximately 3" round well above the hightest leaves. It does well in dry sandy soils in full sun but can tolerate some shade and grows to 3' in height. Blooms May thru June and attracts butterflies.
